Research an idea

Target audience demographic

My target audience is people between the age of 15 - 25. I have chose this age group because because i believe it is the most appropriate for the content of the film. I think young adults, whilst growing up, seek the need for thrill, A horror film provides this for them.Young adults want to live life to fullest because they are at a prime age. The audience i have chosen would be suitable for the genre of my short film because they are less put off by violence and unnatural images, i believe the older generation would have a negative reaction to horror films because they do not seek the thrill of a young adult.

The main gender that my short film will target will be male. It is proven that men are more likely to watch horror film because of the thrill. The male gender is more attracted to adrenaline and thrill. Also, males are more likely to enjoy the violence and spookiness a horror movie holds. I chose the male gender because overall i believe they will be more intrigued with the content.

Audience figures

According to the website above, 33% of men over the age of 35 enjoy watching horror films whereas only 22% of women would enjoy them.

36% of men under the age of 35 enjoy watching horror films, 44% of women under 35 enjoy watching horror films.

Based on these figures i can recognize that men are more likely to watch horror films whether they are over 35 or under. So for my short film, choosing a male gender as the target audience was right because due to figures they are more likely to watch horror films over women.

In addition, based on these figures i have noticed that not only men under the age of 35 are more likely to watch horror films but women are more likely to as well. This means that the age group i have chosen is suitable for both genders therefore attracting the maximum amount of people that enjoy watching horror films.

A ghost story - spirits or the rising sun inn

A family party was on the go. A screech was heard from the kitchen but was unnoticed. Later on that night they saw a figure looking out the window. They had a vivid description of the figure, and stood there with its droopy structure.

research competitors

Paranormal activity is one of my main competitors. They produced a low budget horror film with the same idea of paranormal activity occurring. Their horror film was so successful they spent 1.8 million making it and in return gain 67 million back. It is a very well known film and has high ratings.
